The Missing Emergency Call Box – GOTCHA MOMENTS July 2018
So, you installed Emergency Call Boxes around your campus to provide an extra layer of safety and security for the students, faculty, and staff. Additionally, parents like seeing the call boxes knowing that if their son or daughter ever has a problem they can quickly reach public safety.
But what is the best practice for getting them repaired?
Nobody likes Gotcha Moments! So, take the time to develop a service plan, establish standards, and find a security integrator that can provide the highest level of service.
The Propped Door – GOTCHA MOMENTS July 2018
You care about your students, faculty, and staff. You want to provide a safe and secure environment where they can be safe and excel academically. You want your students’ parents to know that you care and are taking safety and security seriously. You install a state-of-the-art access control system that includes monitoring the status of the doors.
You forgot one thing! To be effective the system needs to be monitored 24/7 365 days a year, alarms need to be responded too, and you need to hold people accountable for putting others at risk. That state-of-the-art access control system is only as good as the people managing it, otherwise it just an expensive key control system.
Nobody likes Gotcha Moments! So, take the time to educate your team, develop policies and procedures, and hold people accountable when they create an unsafe environment for others. Remember bad people are not necessarily bad just between the hours of 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.
Don’t Let Squirrels Hang Signs – GOTCHA MOMENTS July 2018
Squirrels love them or hate them but never let them hang your traffic signs. They are probably the worst decision makers ever, they dash one way, stop and dash back often ending up as road kill.
You probably have squirrels on your team, maybe your manager is a squirrel. You know who they are but what can you do about it? The best way to deal with a squirrel on your team is to give them a clear scope of work, that provides step by step instructions. Rather than tell them to hang traffic sign in your garage, you will have to take the time tell them what sign and where to hang it. Even with a clear scope of work, you will have to check the work yourself.
As for the boss squirrel, you have two options. You can either find a way to manage the boss squirrel or run in the opposite direction. My advice would be for you to run in the opposite direction.
